Astrology – a scientific outlook

From time immemorial, the concept that celestial bodies in the sky can provide a map of the future has fascinated mankind. Mankind’s romance with Astrology ranges from a casual glance at the newspaper’s zodiac signs section, to making important decisions in life such as matrimonial, financial and even medical on the advice of astrologers. It is known that some heads of state too have consulted astrologers to help make decisions that could influence the course of history

So what is the accuracy of Astrology when used as a tool to predict the future or for decision making? Spiritual Science Research Foundation (SSRF) has used spiritual research methodologies to assist in shedding light on this question along with providing a spiritual perspective to the accuracy of Astrology and the parameters that could affect it.

1. Astrology as a science

Astrology has been confirmed and reconfirmed based on observation, inference and conclusion just like modern sciences. However the use of intuition in the science of Astrology is only possible if the astrologer is of a high spiritual level.

2. Accuracy of Astrology

Maximum amount of accuracy that can be obtained on average in the below four applications of Astrology:

  • Predictive – 30%
  • Diagnostic – 27%
  • Basic human nature and compatibility between people – 27%
  • Decision-making – 5%

(To view the chart in detail and read the interpretation of the percentages, please click on the link at the end of the article and go to point 5.4.)

3. Factors influencing accuracy of Astrology

3.1. Depending on tradition of Astrology used

There are various traditions used in Astrology. Each of them has varying methodologies. The following table (to view the table please click on the link at the end of the article and go to point 5.5.1) is a comparative chart of the accuracy able to be achieved by the more significant traditions obtained through spiritual research.

3. 2. Based on the spiritual level of the astrologer

Depending on the spiritual level of an astrologer results can vary in accuracy. An accuracy of 100 % can only be achieved by a Saint of a spiritual level of 90% and above and that too only if He wishes to know. (To view the chart in detail, please click on the link at the end of the article and go to point 5.5.2)

3. 3. Based on the person doing spiritual practice

The only way to overcome destiny, which Astrology attempts to view and predict, or be insulated from it, is to do spiritual practice. This is because destiny is a spiritual problem that can only be overcome by a spiritual remedy. However the effect of spiritual practice and religious rituals done to overcome a problem where the root cause is spiritual in nature is not reflected in the astrological chart. Hence an astrological reading does not reflect the spiritual practice undertaken by the person.

3.4. Based on the type of question asked to the astrologer

Accuracy also depends on the type of question asked to the astrologer. For example, someone may ask an astrologer whether to invest in one venture or the other. Another person may ask whether to get married to person A or person B. A better result of accuracy could have been achieved if the person asked whether to invest or not in the first place or whether to get married or not.

 3. 5.  According to the time of one’s birth

Mapping the horoscope as per the time of conception increases its accuracy.

Summary

·         The accuracy of a horoscope is directly dependent on the power of interpretation of an astrologer.

·         The power of interpretation and intuition can only be increased by spiritual practice.

·         People mostly turn to Astrology for some hope and to try bracing themselves for the destiny in store. In this current era 65% of our lives are destined. If we use the 35% of our free will to do spiritual practice we can overcome or be insulated from our destiny. Once one is at peace with one’s destiny and strong enough to calmly undergo it, one’s need for astrological assistance decreases and one lives a calmer and more content life.

Moon Magic

Luna ... is still the Moon.On the other hand, people fall in love under the Full Moon. It's hard to see a beautiful yellow-gold Moon rising ... and not want to walk along the sea shore ... or into the desert night ... hand-in-hand with the one you love. Love songs and poems that evoke the magic imagery of the Moon are found in many cultures and all through the generations.Ancient cultures worshiped the Moon, and held ceremonies, rituals, and festivals in its honor. Many contemporary primitive people continue to give the Moon divine status. Mythologies speak of Moon Goddesses ... and even the image evokes feelings of a powerful archetypal energy. The Moon influences the tides. It influences the gravitational field of the earth. It influences the fertility cycle in some (and maybe all) species. In Astrology, the Moon is considered the second most important placement in a Natal Chart and thus the second most powerful influence on and descriptor of a person's character. As I've said in many places and at many times, I'm not sure you can set that kind of hierarchy ... because the Moon may be every bit as important and essential as the Sun.The Moon represents your emotional self, your inner self, your instincts, habits, and automatic reactions.

The sign it occupies in the Zodiac at any given time will color your reactions, feelings and "personal responses" according to the issues and characteristics represented by the sign involved. The Moon changes signs every 2 1/2 days ... and keeping track of the Moon's position in its travels through your Natal Chart is one of the very best ways I know to stay in touch with the currents of your own emotional flow. What Is Tarot Astrology?

Tarot astrology is the system through which a reading of the cards in a tarot deck help you through troubled times by offering a reflection on your past, present and future. Tarot is closely associated with astrology as each card relates to a planet, element, or astrological sign.

Tarot cards are used for divination, often known as fortune telling. But, many psychologists have used them as well, feeling that the cards often make patients delve in to how they feel about themselves. This is done through the subconscious. For example, let’s say you know work is not going well, but you do not allow yourself to think about it. Getting a tarot card reading that shows you need to change occupations is not really telling your future so much as it is making you face what is really going on in your life.

A tarot card deck consists of 78 cards that fall into two distinctive parts. The first part is called the Major Arcana. This part of the deck has 22 cards, 21 suitless cards referred to as trumps and one card called The Fool. It is believed that these cards represent different stages of life that we go through. Many are recognizable such as the Magician (associated with the planet Mercury), the Lovers (associated with the astrological sign Gemini), and the Death card (associated with Scorpio).

The other 56 cards are in the Minor Arcana. Arcana is taken from the Latin word “akanum,” meaning secret. The Minor Arcana is divided into four suits, just like regular playing cards. The four suits are the Cups, the Wands, the Swords, and the Pentacles. Each of these cards represents a certain element of the Earth and is associated with certain astrological signs. The Cups represent water and are associated most closely with Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. The Cups stand for emotions, spirituality, and the unconsciousness. The Wands represent fire and are associated with Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The Wands stand for action, creativeness, and personal growth. The Swords represent air and are associated with Libra, Gemini, and Aquarius. The Swords stand for the mind, intelligence, and knowledge. The final suit, the Pentacles, represents earth itself and is associated with Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. The Pentacles stand for the physique, bodily experiences, and practicality. In addition to the four suits, there are also Court cards including the King, Queen, Prince, and Princess for each suit.

The Minor Arcana cards provide more details to the Major Arcana cards. The Major Arcana gives an individual direction and information about their personal life and emotional and mental state. The Minor Arcana cards offer additional guidance in areas such as relationships, activities, failures, and successes. The Major Arcana cards are seen as more spiritual while the Minor Arcana cards are seen as material.

Over the years, the interpretation of the cards has evolved. Modern decks of tarot cards are much more expressive that then earlier version, due in part to the pictures being more closely associated with their meaning. Tarot readers prize their cards and often will not let others touch them as they are viewed as sacred tools of their trade. Many card sets are often viewed as works of art because of the detailed pictures on each one.

Finding a psychic for a tarot reading is easy. If you are looking to visit a psychic in person, check in your local Yellow Pages under Psychic. If you live in a remote area or are leery of visiting a psychic in person, you can also get tarot card readings online. If you use your favorite Internet search engine to search on “free tarot reading,” you will find many sites appear. If you are leery that free readings might not be as accurate as paid reading, you can also find online psychics who will charge to do a reading. Some psychics will base their charges on how many questions you wish to ask about the reading while some will just charge a flat fee for so many minutes.

Whether you get a tarot card reading online or in person, there are several things you should keep in mind. The tarot card reading should not scare you, but rather give you a better understanding of yourself. They will help you with not only what your future holds, but also what is presently going on in your life. You should leave the reading with a positive attitude and feeling enlightened.

The Meaning Behind Astrology Symbols

By Morgan Hamilton

Astrology symbols are not the discovery of the century. People knew about the astrology symbols for many years. For many years astrology symbols have been used to stand for the different signs of the zodiac. Once you have learned the meaning behind astrology symbols you realize that they are easy to remember and to recognize. The astrology symbols represent certain zodiac signs so that zodiac signs can be distinguished from one another. Aquarius is believed to be the most discernable astrology symbol. This astrology symbol is always presented with figures, which resemble water. Someone can relate the waves on the astrology image with an aquarium but not with water. However, the Aquarius astrology sign is probably the easiest to remember.

Other easy to remember astrology signs are Taurus and Aries. The Taurus astrology sign image represents a bull. Its name can be easily remembered because the Spanish word for bull is the same. A sphere with two bull-like horns is usually the picture of the Taurus astrology sign. On the other hand, the Aries astrology sign is associated with a goat and its image shows horns on a goats head.

In the zodiac, there are two twin astrology symbols. That is why Pisces and Gemini are often mixed up. Sometimes their images are quite alike. The figure of the astrology sign Pisces is usually presented with two fish. The image of the Pisces astrology sign is always a pair of fish. The Gemini astrology sign, for its part, is presented with an image that resembles the Roman numeral II.

One of the most clearly recognized visual images of the astrology symbols is the one that represents the Leo astrology sign. A lions mane or simply a lion is the astrology symbol of the Leo.

Virgo and Scorpio are also quite similar astrology symbols. These two astrology symbols both resemble the letter M. These remarkably different astrology symbols are represented by icons, which look quite alike. The difference between the images is that the Scorpio astrology symbol has a tail that sticks out to the point of an arrow outwards. Virgos tail stands inward and has no arrow at its tip.

Cancer and Sagittarius are two astrology symbols, which are easy to be distinguished. While the Cancer sign is quite feminine, the Sagittarian sign is masculine. The Cancers astrology symbol consists of two circles that intersect each other. The Sagittarius astrology symbol is represented only by an arrow that points up and right.

Capricorn is probably the most strange astrology symbol. I am not sure why but its astrology symbol represents a goatfish. A goatfish is not the most pleasant picture that is possible but I think the image it not so bad. It looks like the letters VS.

The last astrology symbol, which is left, is Libra. This astrology symbol looks alike the scales of justice that we see in the courthouses. They are usually associated with balance.

These astrology symbols live for many generations and they will probably wait for many others to come.

A Foundation For Astrology

Astrology studies the celestial bodies affects on humanity. In particular human fate, destiny, and personality were described by the celestial influences of the stars and planets. The roots of Astrology can be traced back to the first or second century BC. Many ancient cultures such as the Egyptians, Babylonians, and Chinese practiced forms of Astrology. Although, the methods of Astrological forecast differed slightly from culture to culture there still remained many fundamental similarities between them.

For example Chinese Astrology which evolved convergent to western Astrology had some major differences. The most fundamental difference being the use of the moons 28 day cycle through the heavens as opposed to the Suns* 365 day cycle around the earth(*Note: The Sun does not revolve around the earth but during this period it was the popular belief). The earliest Chinese zodiac divided the lunar cycles into 4 groups each corresponding to a different season and 7 sub groups corresponding to specific lunar mansions in the season. The seasons were given animal based names for example: Spring=The Green Dragon of spring, summer=The Red Bird of Summer, fall=The White Tiger of autumn, and winter=The Black Tortoise of Winter.

Even though the use of the moon in Chinese Astrology opposed the use of the suns movement through the celestial bodies in the Babylonian and Egyptian disciplines some similarities still existed. These similarities included the use of elemental attributes assigned to the planets. For example Saturn= Earth, Mars=Fire, Mercury=Water, Venus=Metal, and Jupiter=Wood. In addition to this similarity the Chinese zodiac also has 12 signs like its western counterpart.

The western use of the sun as the foci for Astrological studies stemmed from the pre heliocentric model of the universe. In particular Egyptians may have contributed greatly to the earth centered model of the solar system. They believed a giant dung beetle pushed the sun through the sky like a giant piece of dung. This earth centered model of our solar system coincidentally seemed to arise around 1.5 BC right around the time the Egyptian and Babylonian studies of celestial objects began.

As you may suspect there are different schools of thought on Astrology. These include Moon signs, Sun Signs, and animal signs. The popular horoscope used in your local newspaper for example is probably based on your sun sign. In contrast the Indian Vedic school of thought would be more concerned with your moon sign. While the Chinese system uses animal signs in their zodiac and is based on the twelve year Jovan cycle. Some even speculate that there may be correlation between Astrological studies and the Tarot deck.

In conclusion, Astrology has substantial scientific, historical, societal, and spiritual foundations. However you look at it the influences of the planets and constellations on our lives is evident in our every day lives. From the ebbing and rising of the oceans' tides alone it should be apparent that the immense power of the moon has profound affects on our planet. In addition based on this it would stand to reason that as humans composed mostly of water the celestial bodies (ie the Moon) do have a profound impact on our moods, personality traits, and interactions with others. Wouldn't it?

Just as there is a side of the Moon which we never see, whose hidden half is as potent a factor in causing the ebb and flow of the earth's tide as the part of the Moon which is visible, there is an invisible part of man which exerts a powerful influence in life.

The planets represent the energies that drive your physical, emotional, mental and intuitional systems. These energies manifest themselves differently depending on the positions of the planets in the signs of the zodiac.

Different signs channel the energies into different behavior patterns, which are then recognized as personality traits. With an accurate horoscope you will learn what your best traits are and be able to capitilize on them.

How do you go about getting an accurate horoscope? -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Astrology

Astrology is one of the traditional methods of divination, which is completely based upon theory of the locations and positions of the supernal heavenly bodies like planets, sun, moon and the stars during the birth of an individual’s life. While describing Astrology with respect to psychological outline, it is a kind of new age therapy that is practiced for personality examination and self-understanding. Though describing in both stipulations, astrology is a reflection of magical thinking.

While most people describe astrology as supernal belief, the Thorwald Dethlefsen describes astrology as a method of exemplifying reality. As a real fact, Astrology will be described with different connotation by several different people. A well researching scientist or fashion loved modernist will merely describe astrology as a simple concept and toughest part of science. Few people consider it as a mesmerizing art, or ability, or spiritual facts, or a psychological practice or even as a religion. While discussing in reality, Astrology is something that could be implemented with exact time of birth and the place of birth.

Astrology is common to all living thing! Even your pet dog has their future presaged, if you get to know their place of birth and time of birth.

For all these reason, astrology is set to be a blend of several themes of emotion. All these confusions prevailing, people get into confusion on what to believe and what not to believe. How would you behave if someone tells you the date and time of your death, without knowing things about your style of living? That would be really scaring people out from their wits. The right birth time and place of a person will help an astrologist to calculate his/her death date! Though all these information are shared, some might believe Astrology whereas some never trust all these facts. Astrology is the influencing of natural heavenly bodies and it is described as a symbolic representation of exemplifying reality.

There are several branches in horoscopic astrology. They are described here as follows:

Basically astrology horoscope could be categorized into 4 branches that will be directed with particular field or subject. All these branches make use of specific technical approach with various applications including to the core precept of system in various area. The four principle branches of astrology are explained here for your denotation.

Horary Astrology is a practice that is used to give answer for several queries of education chart.

Mundane Astrology which is otherwise called as world astrology is an application that deals with world or universal events like earthquakes, weather, empire, religion, and other more.

Alternative Health Tips

Naturopathy is Swasha Vritha or the prophylactic or preventive aspect. Ayurveda is the Athura Vritha or Therapy. Both are related sciences.

Daily Routines or Dinacharya, according to Ayurveda

The ideal time to get up is 04.30 AM. This is known as Brahma Muhurtha or the Time of Brahman, the Absolute. After getting up, one should know the condition of the body. Then one should brush one's teeth and go to toilet for bowel movement. One should brush teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Then one should go in for an Oil Bath. Oil, preferably coconut oil should be used. This oil should be pasted all over the body and one should wait for at least 30 minutes and then take a bath. Cold bath is ideal but for those suffering from diseases hot water bath is good.

Oil bath gives you good sleep. Weakness of the body will disappear. Your body will grow in strength. Your eyes will sparkle. " Abhyangam Achareth Nithyam " says Ayurveda ( Daily you should go in for Oil Bath ). But those suffering from indigestion and excess Kapha should not go in for Oil Bath.

Pathya - Diet Control

When Ayurvedic medicines are taken, one should observe Pathya or Diet Control.

The Six Tastes of Ayurveda are - Sweet, bitter, astringent, sour, pungent and salty. Those suffering from Hyperacidity or Ulcer should not take in foods that are Sour or Pungent. This is known as Pathya. For every disease, there are foods that should not be taken in. For people suffering from heart trouble, cholesterol containing eggs, meat, beef etc should not be taken in. This is Pathya.

Now there is a saying in Ayurveda that for one observing Pathya, there is no need for medicine, as negative food is phased out and Spontaneous Cure takes place. Also for one not observing Pathya, as intake of medicines become useless, as negative food devastates his disease.Pathya means the Way to Health. Apathya means taking in the negative food which foster the disease.

Banana - Nature's Tonic

The Banana is full of vitamins and minerals. It contains iron, phosphorus and vitamins like Niacin and Riboflavin. A big banana can confer more than 200 calories.

The fructose contained in banana turns to energy after intake. Along with protein and starch, it contains minerals like sulphur, iron, magnesium, copper & calcium. There is less fat content in bananas. Bananas will reduce the acidity in blood. It contains Vitamins C, A, B, D & E.

Along with bananas, warm milk should be taken. This is the ideal food for growing children. But then the obese should not take milk along with bananas. As Bananas have Rasayana properties, use of it will keep you young. You can live for months only on bananas. Bananas can be used as medicine for patients with liver complaints and for digestive tract disorders. Also it can be taken by those suffering from Malnutrition and Scurvy. Also for patients suffering from eye and dental diseases. ( as it contains Vitamin A & Cacium ).

Continence or Brahmacharya

By Continence or Brahmacharya, we mean the control of libidinal life. Both Ojas ( Light ) and Veerya ( Virility ) are based on the Seventh Tissue Element, Semen. Avoid the misuse of this great Dhathu, says Ayurveda. Too much indulgence in sex makes you lose this Seventh Tissue Element and this will result in weakness of body. Body ache, headache etc will be the result. Loss of semen adversely affects reversely the other Six Tisssue Elements.

If you observe Brahmacharya ( practise Continence ), improved memory, grapsing power, physical strength, discriminative intellect, mental happiness, increase of Ojas or effulgence on the face etc will be the result. In order to have good health, you have to control sex. But then as pure Brahmacharya is impossible for married men, controlled Brahmacharya or celibacy is advocated.

Insomnia

Lack of sleep is due to many factors - Anxiety, mental tension, over exercise, emotional suffering etc. When Anger and enmity are suppressed, sleeplessness is the result. Constipation, digestive tract disorders, coffee, tea etc will destroy sleep. Thoughts about sleeplessness will only compound the problem.

Use of sleeling pills is not ideal. You may have to depend on such pills. And increasing the quantity is asking for trouble. If Alcohol is taken along with pills, there will repercussions.

Avoid beverages like Cola, tea and coffee. And take in less fatty foods. Avoid fried foods. Take only small quantity of food at night. If you have warm milk before going to sleep, if you keep the mind tranquil, you will doze off to slumberland. You should take food 3 hours before going to bed. It will be better if you can hear peaceful music. Reading is also a good habit which will take you to slumberland. You should walk at least half an hour before going to sleep. It will help to digest the food taken. Meditation will give you good sleep.

Constipation

The modern fast food culture is responsible for Constipation. Anxiety, fear, mental tension - all these create Constipation. Naturopaths averr that Constipation is the root cause of all diseases. Some antacids also create Constipation. In certain conditions, water will be absorbed in the Colon and faecal matter may solidify. Such hard stools are difficult to dislodge. Lack of proper timing of food, anxiety, mental problems etc all cause Constipation. Constipation will create back pain, weight in the stomach, headache, loss of appetite etc.

Intake of fruits and vegetables organically grown, 12 glasses of water daily, ensure mental peace, correct bowel movements - all these will cure Constipation

Gas Trouble or Hyperacidity

This is a very common disease. In India, there are very few homes without antacid tablets ! On one side, we take a lot of antacids and on the other take in acidic foods ! Amongst the Six Tastes, that which is Sour, Pungent and Salty foster Hyperacidity.

Fried foods, foods containing Masala, very cold drinks, potato, plantains - all these foster Gas Trouble. Lack of exercise is one of the causative factors. Also working seated for long hours.Mental tensions also foster this disease. It is not what you eat, but it is what eats you that is the cause of this common disease.

Mental pain, thoughts of revenge, fear - all these pave the way for this malady. There is an Emotional Center in the brain. When we have mental upsets, this Emotional Center stimulates the oxintic cells in our stomach to secrete Hyrochloric Acid.Lots of gas going from the rectal tract, indigestion - all these are the symptoms of gas trouble. Naturopaths averr that Constipation is the cause of this disease, nay, for all diseases !

Hurry, Worry and Curry are the main causative factors for this disease. Eating food fast, overeating, foods with masala, sour, pungent, salty foods, pickles, chillies, potato, soda, cola, chilled beer, nictoine, alcohol, very hot foods, chewing gum - all these cause Hyperacidity. Prevention is better than Cure. Avoid the Apathya foods and be healthy !

More information about Ayurveda can be had at

http://www.eastrovedica.com/html/ayurveda3.htm

Contradictory Foods

Contradictory Foods are known in Ayurveda as " Samyoga Viruddha". When contradictory foods are taken in, it will increase the Doshic imbalance and becomes the cause of many diseases. Shrimp and Milk, Fish and butter, Sour fruits & Milk - are some examples of Contradictory Foods. They are to be avoided at all costs.

Chicken & butter should not be taken in simultaneously. Honey and ghee in equal quantities also is prohibited in Ayurveda

Colon Hydrotherapy

Naturopathy says that diseases are caused by the accumulation of morbid matter. Natural Hygiene says the cause is Toxemia, or the infusion of toxins into the blood.

One of the methods of cleaning the Colon is Enema or Colon Hydrotherapy. I have been practising Enema for the last 18 years. In 1989, while I was participating in an Exhibition Stall in Trichur ( a 41 day affair ), the nearest stall was a Naturopathy stall and the Chief Naturopath told me that the best way to get rid of Gas trouble was to take 15 light enemas.

I bought an enema can and have been doing this when I have any rectal block. This therapy is effective as we can see putrified faecal matter going out 10 minutes after the enema is administered. This is Jalopasana or Water Therapy or Hydro Therapy. All the ancient cultures advocated Hydro Therapy, as Water has got tremendous medicinal properties. Not only faecal matter, but gas, mucous and toxins go out of the rectal tract.

Fasting Therapy

Fasting Therapy is one of the best therapies. The digestive system gets rest during fasting. " Lankhanam Paramoushadam " - Fasting is the best medicine. Water Fasting, Fruit Fasting, Juice fasting --- there are many types of fasting. Juice Fasting is superior to Water Fasting as the body is supported nutritionally.

The basic principle of Naturopathy is that Nature has healing power and that the Five Doctors are the Elemental Five -Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. ( Annam Brahma ). By Annam is not meant Food, but the Five Doctors, the Five Elements. " The Five Doctors are the best, as the Five Elements are prior to all ", declares the Upanishads. ( Annam hi bhoothanam jyeshtyam, thasmad Sarvoushadam Uchyathe )

Ghee - The True Rasayana

Rasayana Therapy is Rejuvenation Therapy. That which rejuvenates the body is Rasayana. Ghee is considered to be the True Rasayana. All Ayurvedic preparations are based on ghee, I mean, almost all the Rasayanas. Ghee contains Vitamins A E, K D etc. Vitamin E and Vitamin A are anti-oxidants. Diseases are caused by the excessive production of Free Radicals and these two are antidotes to Free Radicals. The famous Chyavan Prash is based on Ghee. It is said that the Rasayanas confer beauty, longevity, intelligence, youthfulness, health etc. Ghee, taken in moderate quantities, will confer these.

 Compatibility or Synergy and Astrology:

When two people meet, their chances for a compatible relationship depend on how their basic needs and personality traits will mesh in the give and take of social or business interactions.

These can be determined by comparing a companion's horoscope with your own natal chart. In doing a comparison, first notice whether your companion has a predominance of planets in one of the elements, more than four planets in one element. A predominance of planets in one element tells you something about what that person brings to the relationship, for example:

A person with a predominance of Fire signs brings an impulsive enthusiasm to the relationship.

A person with a predominance of Earth signs introduces a stabilizing influence on the

relationship.

A person with a predominance of Air signs puts the relationship on an intellectual level.

A person with a predominance of Water signs will flood the relationship with deep emotional actions and reactions.

In general, people are more likely to be compatible with each other when their natal planets fall into compatible elements. The compatible elements are fire with air, earth with water. That means if you have a predominance of natal planets in the fire signs, you are more likely to have a compatible relationship with someone who has a predominance of natal planets in the air signs. If your companion's planets are mostly in the earth signs, you can expect assorted difficulties depending on which elements are involved.

It is also important to note how many of your planets are in the Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable signs; and where your companion's planets are.

A predominance of planets in one quality (i.e., five or more planets in a cardinal, fixed, or mutable sign) tells you how someone is likely to act in a relationship. For example:

A person with a predominance of Cardinal signs is anxious to see things get started.

A person with a predominance of Fixed signs is more likely to be stubborn and unyielding in a relationship.

A person with a predominance of Mutable signs will be adaptable and willing to make most of the compromises.

Now it is important to note to see how your and your companion's planets are distributed among the masculine and feminine signs. Most people have an even balance of five-to-five, or six-to-four, between masculine or feminine. If you and your companion each have the normal ratios of planets, you should have no trouble getting along with each other. You can work things out even when one of you has a gender ration of seven-to-three while the other has a four-to-six ratio.

If there is a difference of one or two planets in masculine (or feminine) signs between you and your companion you should have no trouble in establishing a compatible relationship. If there is a difference of three planets, you can still work things out. However, if there are more

than three planets between you and your companion, in one gender, you will both have to work very hard to maintain a relationship. The reason is that the dominantly masculine person's aggressive behavior will threaten and harass the reserved, security-motivated feminine person.

If both people are dominated by the same gender (either masculine or feminine), they share the same viewpoint and approach to life. Initially, this can give them a strong feeling of compatibility.

However, they will soon feel a need for the kind of stimulation that comes from defending mildly different points of view. They will have to turn to someone else to meet that need.

Someone with eight or more planets in a single gender may find it difficult to find a comfortable relationship.

The revolution of the earth has a profound effect on behavior, mood, sleep and for the sake of this discussion, immune systems. through effective astrology, it possible to lose weight.

It all starts with getting an astrological chart done. Computer programs are very useful in this respect. The next step is understanding the chart, from planet to planet and house to house. There are many books in print to facilitate the chart’s interpretation, as it is a personal issue.

It then becomes easy to apply the necessary measures to attain good health. Astrology describes with immense accuracy the constituent of a person’s makeup particularly the immune system, functional and structural weaknesses. Your star sign may just be an indiciation of health issues to come and healthy healing remedies available through alternative healing practices.

There are many people with hypersensitivity to conventional medication, pollutants as well as environmental and household chemicals.

Astrology helps people tell which elements are harmful and avoid them altogether. Astrology has unearthed a variety of healing modalities that are used in conjunction with alternative medicine and alternative healing remedies for those who wish to reduce the chances of side effects and heal naturally.

• Neptune has great influence here. It is a symbol of heightened sensitivity whether physically, mentally or emotionally.

• Taurus and Capricorn suggest bodywork and nutritional or chiropractic therapies.

• The element of water characterized by Pisces, Scorpio and Cancer suggest psychic healing, art therapy and psychotherapy.

• The fire signs of Sagittarius, Leo and Aries respond well to exercise programs like qi gong and t’ai chi.

• Aquarius, Libra and Gemini, the air sings do very well with acupuncture, scheduled rests and yoga as the best ways of recharging their nervous systems. this is vital considering that such peoples systems get over stimulated very easily.

The science is still growing and there is plenty to uncover. Reading widely is a necessity. Like medical dosage, it is important to time treatments. The full moon has an influence on surgery. Its appearance is an indication of hemorrhaging after surgical procedures. Pluto and Mars on the other hand portend quick recovery in addition to swift surgery. Health is a sum of total of mental wellbeing relationship success and physical alertness and bodily fitness. Astrology is the vehicle that brings all these aspects together. It is simple to administer, safe and to an extent, horoscopes are interesting to read and follow on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.

As the field of astrology, which is fairly new in regard to scientific research grows, so will the connection between astrological signs and alternative health related treatments. The signs of the stars can be a great indication of future health problems, health concerns and health treatments.

Chinese Astrology

There are twelve Chinese year signs in the Chinese Zodiac. Unlike in our western astrology, in Chinese astrology each sign lasts for a year. Legend has it that as Buddha was about to depart the earth he summoned all the animals to say goodbye. Only twelve turned up so, to show his appreciation of their loyalty, he vowed that from then on each year would bear the name of one of the animals.

Chinese astrology is based on the Lunar Calendar. This means the Chinese New Year does not fall on the same day each year and can vary by as much as 3 weeks. So for babies born in late January/early February it is necessary to consult the charts to determine the correct sign.

You will find a chart of the dates and signs below. Each sign repeats every 12 years, so 2006/7 will be the year of the Dog. For exact dates visit our website. Following the chart you will find the characteristics of people born during the Chinese Year of The Rooster.

9 February 2005 - 28 January 2006: Rooster
22 January 2004 - 8 February 2005: Monkey
1 February 2003 - 21 January 2004: Goat
12 February 2002 - 31 January 2003: Horse
24 January 2001 - 11 February 2002: Snake
5 February 2000 - 23 January 2001: Dragon
6 February 1999 - 4 February 2000: Rabbit
28 January 1998 - 5 February 1999: Tiger
8 February 1997 - 27 January 1998: Ox
19 February 1996 - 7 February 1997: Rat
31 January 1995 - 18 February 1996: Pig
10 February 1994 - 30 January 1995: Dog

The Chinese Year Of The Rooster..

If you or your child was born in the Chinese year sign of the rooster you have far to go. Roosters are full of confidence, fearless and brave. They will take on an adversary far superior to themselves if they believe they are in the right.

If they can control their impulsive streak they are usually successful in business. Intelligent and ambitious, Roosters work hard and like to be in control, often successfully running their own businesses.

People born under this sign are extroverts and enjoy the company of others. They do not like to be criticised and their self-esteem can crumble if they are ridiculed.

Roosters hate to be bored and can be deliberately provocative if life is too dull.

Other signs either love or hate Roosters. Fortunately for the Rooster, most people love them.

Signs, the Ancient History:

When the ancients noticed the planets moving along the ecliptic path, they also noticed the background of fixed stars behind that path. It would be as though you noticed a background

of billboards around a racetrack. You could tell the positions of the horses around the track just by identifying the billboards behind each horse. The ancients used the background of fixed stars the same way.

They divided their racetrack (the ecliptic) into 12 equal sectors. Each sector was named after the fixed-star group seen in that sector. Aries the ram, etc. The ancients referred to these sectors as the "little zoo", which in Greek is "zodiac".

The Significance of The Signs:

The planets represent the energies that drive your physical, emotional mental and intuitional systems. These energies manifest themselves differently depending on the positions of the planets in the signs of the zodiac. Different signs channel the energies into different behavior patterns, which are then recognized as personality traits. In a word the traits associated with each sign are as follows:

Aries Outgoing

Taurus Conservative

Gemini Versatile

Cancer Emotional

Leo Authoritative

Virgo Exacting

Libra Helpful

Scorpio Determined

Sagittarius Optimistic

Capricorn Cautious

Aquarius Independent

Pisces Impressionable

Every sign falls into a group of signs, either fire, earth, water, and air; depending on their orientation in the zodiac. These ancient astrologers had associated each Element with their temperaments, and each group of elements are at 120 degree angles to each other.

Fire Signs:

Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. Enthusiastic, courageous, passionate and impulsive.

Earth Signs:

Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Practical, materialistic, conservative, and inhibited.

Air Signs:

Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Intellectual, adaptive, impractical, and superficial.

Water Signs:

Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. Emotional, sensitive, placid, and susceptible.

These four groups of signs: fire, earth, air, and water, combine to form two major groups that represent two fundamental approaches to life; active and passive. The fire and air signs make up the active or masculine signs, while the earth and water signs make up the passive or feminine signs. It is unfortunate that the ancient astrologers called the active signs masculine and the passive signs feminine.

Another group of traits occurs among signs that are 90 degrees apart from each other. There are four signs in each group of Qualities , which are cardinal, fixed, or mutable. They suggest the basic kinds of activity a person will be engaged in--getting things started, keeping them going, or steering them in different directions.

Cardinal Signs:

Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn. Initiating, enterprising, ambitious, domineering.

Fixed Signs:

Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius. Determined, conventional, organizing, dogmatic.

Mutable Signs:

Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius. Adaptable, imaginative, tutorial, critical.

Astrology And Birthstones

Gems have been used from times immemorial for luck and as good omens.Kings and queens are reported to be craving for the possession and pursuit of beautiful gems and stones. Our fore-fathers have used them to ward off evil spirits, to bring luck and favor as well as to prolong their longevity. Some astrologers prescribe wearing of appropriate gemstones or birthstones as they are commonly called as remedial measures for mitigating the malefic effects of some planets. This is akin to a doctor prescribing medicines to a patient.

The venerated Indian astrologer Varahamihira, in his magnum opus “Brihat amhita” (chapters 80 to 83 ), refers to gems and their examination. Gems are said to be born of the bones of the demon Bala while some opine they were born of sage Dadheechi and have characteristic qualities of the earth. The list given by him includes diamond, sapphire, emerald, agate, ruby, bloodstone, beryl, amethyst, vimalaka, quartz, pearl, sughandika, opal, conch, azure, topaz, brahma gem, jyoteerasa, sasyaka, coral, moonstone etc. Diamonds that show scratches like crow-feet (kaakapadam), bees or hair , are mixed with colored minerals substances or gravel, have double facets, are burnt, discolored, lusterless or perforated, are inauspicious. So are those that are covered with bubbles, split at the points, flattened, or oblong. Diamonds that are triangular, trigonal and like the coriander seed or the buttocks are productive of good results to ladies desiring male offspring. Best pearls are those that are got from pearl-oysters.

Everyone who went to school is aware of the word SPECTRUM. When white light passes through a prism, the emergent beam is composed of seven (7) different colors, commonly known as the acronym VIBGYOR i.e., Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet in the reverse order. The same effect is observed in a rainbow. It is believed that our body contains these seven colors in different proportions. If the colors are balanced, the owner is lucky – healthy and wealthy. Any deficiency or excess of one or more rays causes mental or physical (or a combination) problems. The principal gems represent or signify planets and luminaries (sun and moon). The astrologer examines the horoscope and determines which planet (or planets) is antagonistic to the native and prescribes the birthstone to be worn with details of what to wear, when to wear and how to wear.

Ruby, Pearl, Coral, Emerald, Topaz, Sapphire, Diamond, Agate, and Cat’s eye respectively refer to Sun,Moon,Mars,Mercury, Jupiter,Saturn,Venus,Caput (Rahu),and Cauda (Ketu). AGATE is said to be good for the heart, Amethyst cures sterility, Beryl enhances love and affection, Coral protects from epidemics, metorrhagia etc., Diamond cures plague, insomnia, charms, ensures safe delivery , Emerald is said to be good for the brain, increases memory power, ensures chastity, cures dropsy, epilepsy, hysteria, dysentery , Pearl is recommended for chastity, Ruby protects one from poison, plague, banishes melancholy, Sapphire assures good fortune, peace, comfort while Topaz denotes sympathy, re-possession of lost things.

Proper selection of a gemstone is done after a minute consideration of :

• Sun sign

• Ruling ascendant

• Lord of the ruling ascendant

• Debilitated or afflicted planets

The fundamental principle followed is the determination of the ray or rays causing abnormalities. The celestial bodies are known to emit different colors in the spectrographic analyses.

One of the important uses to which this knowledge can be applied is medical science. The curative powers of gemstones have been studied by some who have opined that a proper and restrictive use of some gems can bring upon significant changes in the health of patients and even cure them altogether. Thus, the twelve houses of the native’s horoscope are said to signify different parts of the body. The first house denotes the head and the brain while the fifth house points towards the stomach and the intestines. Similarly, the zodiacal signs refer to the various human organs. The fingers are significators of various ailments and body parts.

The birth star and the Drik ( 6th, 8th and 12th ) houses are also to be taken into account while recommending a birthstone for healthy living. The birth star is the constellation in which the moon resides at the moment of one’s birth. There are 27 (twenty-seven) constellations in Indian astrology each sub-divided into four parts or “padas”. At times, Abhijit is also considered as a constellation occurring in Capricorn. In electional astrology, Abhijit muhurta is said to alleviate any affliction and hence if no appropriate or auspicious moment is possible immediately, recourse is taken to this.

Not only do birthstones help in health problems, they are worn to increase one’s wealth as well.

Thus, Emerald denoting Mercury is beneficial for one dealing with liquid cash, shares and stocks, Jupiter for those dealing with properties, buildings and jewellery etc. The moon in the male horoscope and the sun in the female horoscope are important for prognosticating wealth matters. Jupiter is considered for success and Venus for pleasures in one’s life. Jupiter’s placement in eastern side i.e., aries to virgo assures early success in life. The 2nd house denotes movable assets, 4th fixed assets, 9th general prosperity, fate and the 11th recurring income.

At times, people know only the date of birth and the preparation of an accurate horoscope becomes difficult, if not impossible. They can be told to wear the birthstone pertinent to the date of birth. Thus, those born on the 1st, 10th ,19th or the 28th of any month can wear ruby or red coral to begin with. By trial and error and after consultations the correct gemstone can be worn. Some people are found wearing a “nava ratna” i.e., a ring with all the nine main stones embedded on the ring. While this may do wonders for some, it is not recommended as a general solution to appease all the planets at a time! The factors to be considered when wearing a birthstone are :

1. The correct gem

2. Weight of the gem

3. Metal of the ring

4. Day and time of first wearing

5. Pre-treatment of the stone before wearing.

Pre-treatment refers to the purification or the sanctification process of the embedded ring. The big question remains which school of opinion to follow – sympathy or antipathy? Whether one should appease the afflicted planet or counter-act it?
