| Chakras are Organs of the Ethereal Body The chakras are the organs of the ethereal body which work in harmony with the physical organs allowing the physical bodies to evolve into beautiful forms for the spirit of the Creator to enter and express through.
The chakras are simply energy centers, storehouses for the vibrating atoms, the first stirrings of life in the cosmos. In the beginning it was simply the air that played around and lifted grains of sand which had crumbled off of the pristine rock surfaces and placed them down on the ground near water. This caused a chemical reaction between the minerals in the soil and the algae in the water. This gave birth to the Botanical Kingdom and provided a form for this energy to be embedded in.
The root chakra, the first chakra, was the first bundle of energy to be embodied in a manifested form in physical matter. The Botanical Kingdom evolved through the decaying and rotting of matter into the one cell amoeba. The root chakra, or kundalini, was the only chakra in these early life forms. The total being was centered in that kundalini for the life giving properties and energies. It was the center of the vibrating atoms and was quite necessary in those early forms of life when the animals used their tail for means of locomotion and for protection.
The root chakra was not needed in the animals that were to follow into the human kingdom, as they would no longer need the tail. This chakra was sealed over and the tail eventually disappeared from man. The bundle of energy was then embedded in the second chakra, the sacral plexus to insure survival of the race. The second chakra, the sacral plexus, was in essence the only one operating in the "cave man." It is the center of survival, of animal instinct such as eating, sleeping and procreating.
The third chakra, the solar plexus, came into being gradually. In the early Lemurian days, actually it was a stage before Lemuria called Lamania, the third center developed. This third center, which was the sensing of other's thoughts, developed as primitive man felt a definite need for communication with his own kind to differentiate between themselves and the animals. It was a very slow development as the energy of the second chakra was not closed off. It had to be kept, so it was necessary to grow and build and develop this third chakra or energy center from scratch.
This stage was followed more quickly by the addition of the heart chakra at the same time that these simple creatures developed a conscience, a need to feel responsible for their actions against others. This heart chakra was a quickly developing one, as it became urgently necessary to keep the animal/men from destroying each other. Thus the animal began to have feelings and emotions to deal with in connection with his instincts. The third center, the solar plexus, was not deliberately closed off, but fell into disuse due to the heavy activity of the second and fourth centers.
Thus the animal forms had developed into an upright, almost tailless form that began to sense their difference from the animals that stayed on all fours. They began letting others know what they meant by simple grunts and sign language. The sensing of other's thoughts, this ESP, so to speak, begin fading, and needing a means to communicate, the throat chakra drew the energy bundle from the solar plexus up to the throat and the fifth chakra came into being. The grunts turned into distinguishable, intelligent sounds that developed quickly into a language.
The next chakra, the third eye, developed due partly to man's deviousness and cunning and manipulation, and partly due to disuse of the solar plexus. When they wanted to know what others were thinking so they could manipulate them or beat them at inventing something, they used their imagination to visualize what the other was thinking, trying to second-guess the other, playing games, making up stories, telling fairy tales, and getting the person to respond to the games and daydreams. When this got carried too far drastic action was needed and the Atlantean civilization was destroyed.
Civilization was started over, but not clear back to the one cell again, by restructuring the chakra system. The use of the first chakra was still not needed and was completely sealed at this time. The second was still in use, the third one was reinstated, the fourth one was more separated from the second, functioning more individually from the instinct of the second. The fifth one was left as it was and the sixth one closed, sealed off and the spot for the seventh chakra was added. The energy from the sixth was sent to the seventh center but it was still sealed off until such time as it would be needed and safe to bestow on humanity.
The three lower chakras will set the goals. The root chakra gives the drive, the will to survive, the strength to forge ahead. The second chakra, the sacral plexus, gives the creativity to design your own life and the third chakra gives you the ability to psychically communicate with other kingdoms and other people. In the three higher kingdoms, the throat chakra gives you the ability to express your goals and creativity and to communicate with other kingdoms. The sixth chakra, the third eye gives you the ability to visualize creativity, and the crown chakra gives you the ability to communicate with the higher kingdoms. The fourth chakra, the heart chakra, functions as a transformer enabling all the other chakras to work in combination with each other.
The heart chakra transforms the physical evolution instinctual behavior of the animal kingdom into that of being a human being. Without these transforming capabilities, humanity would not have progressed to the point where it could serve as vehicles of expression for the spirits to enter. The three lower kingdoms draw from that which went before you in time of a physical nature. The three higher kingdoms allow you to access that which went before you in time of a spiritual nature. Both of these are used to form your own universe which is your heart chakra.

Chakra is a Sanskrit word literally meaning wheel or circle. In a deeper sense the word describes the whirlpools or vortices of energy located along the central axis of our bodies, in the “deep” or astral spine. The chakras are a part of what might be called our spiritual anatomy. Just as there is an anatomy to the physical body and maps to the physical world, so also there is a definite anatomy of our spiritual beings, as well as maps and guideposts to follow along the path of inner awakening. If we understand this spiritual anatomy, then we will find it much easier to advance in our search for God.
For example, the point between the eyebrows (the sixth chakra) is that part of the body where the mind becomes focused automatically in ecstasy or just in concentration. Perhaps you’ve noticed the unconscious tendency people have to knit their brows, or frown, when engrossed in a project or making an important point in conversation. Understanding this truth, and consciously putting our attention at that point, we discover that the mind actually does become focused there. This is one of the central teachings of yoga.
Yoga is a continuous tradition of teachings and techniques that help the ascending soul to understand that there are higher levels of consciousness that transcend lower levels of awareness. Generally speaking, information about the chakras comes from India and from the ancient science of yoga. Yoga is a true and universal teaching, yet yoga does not have a corner on truth. Anyone who finds spiritual freedom or oneness with God, no matter whether they are from an Eastern or Western background, discovers the same truths. Yoga’s unique value lies in its scientific approach to finding God, based on an ancient tradition of experimentation. It offers nonsectarian guidance and wisdom for those seeking higher awareness, based on centuries of experience.
Spiritual awakening is not a vague, mystical experience. All true teachings, although some less specifically than yoga, point to very particular realities. As an example of this, we find statements in every scripture that say that heaven is "above" and hell is “below.” But no telescope has ever shown us angels flying around in outer space. Nor has any deep well-drilling equipment brought up screaming and protesting demons. Heaven and hell are not “up” and “down” objectively speaking – what is up for us is down for people in Australia. This concept has no cosmic relevance, but it does have infinite relevance for the individual.
We can easily see this relevance in our instinctive responses to life. When we feel uplifted or high, or downcast or low, we use expressions which reflect these feelings. Spiritual awakening implies raising of energy and consciousness in the body. And hellish consciousness, materialistic consciousness-that which takes us away from joy and down into suffering and pain-is always a descent. Isn’t it true that every time we feel wonderful, we experience a rising energy inside ourselves, and we look up?
You never see people smiling and looking upward, saying, “I feel so depressed.” Likewise, you don’t see people slumping, looking down and droopy, saying “I feel so happy.” Quite the contrary, for these physical reactions are manifestations of universal truths, based on the way we are made. What yoga does is particularize these truths by showing that outer experiences of joy or sadness are caused by energy moving in the deep spine. But yoga doesn’t teach this concept as a dogma. It says: “Try it! Experience it!” For everyone who has tried it, has experienced it.
When our energy is uplifted in the spine we begin to approach divine consciousness. But in the beginning of our spiritual quest, we encounter what might be called “gates” or “doors” (words often used to describe the seven chakras) that need to be unlocked.
Locating the Chakras
The spinal centers, or chakras, are found at the points where tributary streams of energy (prana or life force) from the body join the upward flow of energy in the deep or astral spine. The astral, or energy, spine is not the backbone (those knobs that can be felt along the back), but runs more or less through the center of the body. Energy flows through the central nervous system and through the astral spine. In our unawakened state, the main energy-flow is downward, away from the brain, and outward to the organs and limbs.
The chakras correspond to the spinal plexuses in the physical body, from which nerves branch out to provide energy to the different body parts. As we go deeper in meditation and prayer, uplifting our consciousness, the energy begins to flow upward in the spine. Try to feel this internal “river of life” at your center as the location of the chakras.
First Chakra
The first chakra is located at the base of the spine. It is also called the muladhara, or coccyx center. From this center radiate the nerves that go to the lower parts of the body: the anus, and the legs.
Second Chakra
An inch and a half above the first chakra is the swadisthana, or sacral center. The nerves from this center operate the reproductive system.
Third Chakra
Opposite the navel in the astral spine is the manipura, or lumbar center, the nerves from which operate the digestive system and all the internal organs and glands in the abdominal cavity (spleen, liver, kidneys, adrenals, etc.).
Fourth Chakra
At the region of the heart in the spine is the anahata, or dorsal center, from which nerves radiate out to the heart, lungs, and chest, and into the arms and hands.
Fifth Chakra
The vishudha, or cervical center, from which nerves radiate to the throat, neck, and vocal chords, is opposite the throat in the spine.
Sixth Chakra
The highest spinal center is located in the medulla oblongata, at the base of the brain just above the place where the skull connects with the neck. Its positive pole is the ajna chakra, at the point between the eyebrows. The medulla oblongata is the center through which cosmic energy feeds the entire body with prana (life force or conscious cosmic energy).
Seventh Chakra
The sahasrara chakra, is located in the cranium, at the top of the head. This center is traditionally known as the thousand-petaled lotus, or crown chakra.
Functions of the Chakras
In addition to their physical functions, the chakras store and distribute energy and information. They also serve as the location of our psychological or mental tendencies, habits, and desires. In fact, the astral spine is a long, downward extension of the subconscious mind. Our inner struggle to grow and change spiritually takes place between the pull of the soul from above and the pull of matter and material involvement from below.
Every unfulfilled desire, every wave of like or dislike, every karmic action, creates a subtle vortex of energy. These energy vortices are held together by centripetal thoughts, such as: “I want this; I reject that; I like this; I don’t like that; this is what I have done; that is what I failed to accomplish.” The ego hugs these thoughts and impulses to itself until they gain release outwardly in action, or inwardly in self-realization. To work out all desires or karma in the outer world is, ultimately, not feasible, for out of every fulfilled desire there arise two, or twenty, or a hundred other new desires.
These vortices of desire, also called vrittis, enter the subconscious and sink to their respective levels in the spine in the area of a specific chakra, according to the relative grossness or refinement of the energy they express. Their location in the spine depends on the chakra with which their vibrations are in harmony (“like attracts like”). The more spiritual a vortex, the higher the center around which it settles; the more materialistic a vortex, the lower the center. Very old vortices, as yet unresolved, are submerged, so to speak, by more recently created vortices, and have little or no effect on the waking consciousness. They continue, however, like little ripples on the surface of larger waves, to obscure the clear reflection of the Eternal Spirit, long after the larger waves of the initial desire or feeling have subsided.
The energy of these vortices, when released to flow upward, combines to produce a mighty river of energy before which no obstacle can stand. A strong upward flow of energy in the spine dissolves those vortices automatically, just as a strong flow of water in a river dissolves the little eddies along its banks. Thus an increase of the flow of energy inward and upward through the astral spine is a major tool for awakening and unlocking the chakra “gates.”

In reality they are 7 in number. The seventh Chakra is Sahasrar and is generally not counted because it is the leader of all subordinate Chakras. Thus the 7 energy Chakras (plexuses) are symbols of 7 Lokas (worlds), 7 Rishis, 7 seers and 7 continents. A description of energies and forms associated with each Chakra can be found in many scriptures pertaining to spiritual practices. No doubt some differences are there yet briefly following is the information commonly given by all - 1.MOOLADHAR - Earth element, yellow color, smell Tanmatra, sound Lum, Bhu Loka, situated in the center of the opening of excretory organs. 2.SVADHISHTHAN - Water element, white color, taste Tanmatra, sound Vum, Bhuvaha Loka, situated below the navel. 3.MANIPUR - Fire element, color red, sound Rum, Svaha Loka, form/ sight Tanmatra, situated near the navel region. 4.ANAHAT - Wind element, grey color, sound Yum, touch Tanmatra, Maha Loka, situated near the bosom/heart. 5. VISHUDHI - Space element, color sky blue, sound Tanmatra, Jana Loka, Sound Eem, situated near the throat. 6.AJNA - Tapa Loka, Sound Om, color white, situated between the eye brows. 7.SAHASRAR - Satya Loka, shape of a 1000 petalled blooming lotus, golden color situated at the center of the brain called Reticular Activating System. With which material centers, energies etc. can the energy sources of these 7 Chakras be compared? As an answer a symbolic description is given in various spiritual practices based texts as follows - "All the pilgrim spots of earth dwell in the Mooladhar Chakra. One who bathes in this region attains Moksha or salvation." -MAHAYOG VIJNAN "The heavenly pilgrim spot is situated in the Svadhishthan Chakra. Great Yogis bathe in the divine River Ganges flowing in this region. The Manipur Chakra is a divine pilgrim center and there are 5 ponds in it. Over there is the pilgrim spot of desires. All the contemporary pilgrim centers of the solar system are present in the Anahat Chakra. Those who bathe in these centers attain credentials so as to enter higher sacred Lokas (worlds). -MAHAYOG VIJNAN "The Mooladahr Chakra is Bhuloka, Svadhishthan Chakra is Bhuvaloka, Manipur Chakra is Mahaloka, Vishudhi Chakra is Janaloka, Ajna Chakra is Tapaloka and Sahasrar Chakra is Satyalokaa. Thus at the region below there are 7 nether worlds (Patalaloka). The base of the feet is Talaloka, the upper half of the feet is Talatalaloka, the center of the ankle bone is Mahatalaloka, the upper part of the ankle bone is Rasatala, the center of the thighs is Vitalaloka and the center of the groin is Patalaloka. Thus below the waist are 7 worlds and above the waist are 7 worlds. These add up to totally 14 worlds (Lokas) in our body. He, who visualizes these worlds in his body via spiritual practice, overcomes all pain and strife." -MAHAYOG VIJNAN "In this body the 7 continents, all rivers, ocean, mountains, regions, doorkeepers of regions, Rishi-Munis, galaxies, planets, altars, demigods of altars, Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, sun, moon, space, wind, fire, water, earth, all creatures and whatever else present in this world are attached to this Sumeru (situated in the Divine Serpent Power or Merudand) and they all carry out their respective functions. He who knows this is a true Yogi." -MAHAYOG VIJNAN From the above proclamation it is very clear that the human body is not merely a mass of 70 constituents (e.g. blood, flesh etc.) or biochemical (e.g. fat, carbohydrates etc.). It is made up of not only 1) juices 2) blood 3) flesh 4) muscle 5) bones 6) fat 7) sperm but that deep within lies a divine principle. All the above 7 constituents are influenced by the 7 Chakras and our body unknowingly remains healthy or unhealthy due to this influence. If the state of the secret inner recesses of the soul related to the 7 Chakras, remain balanced it can give us a healthy, long life span. Thus a healthy, long life span is not just dependent on proper food intake and exercises. It is a fact that despite eating proper food and exercising regularly, if our inner secret regions are not optimally balanced, it will make our body unhealthy and can lead to premature death too. The same holds true for our mental center. These 7 Chakras influence various levels of consciousness and the annihilation of the conscious and unconscious mind can be converted to uplifting of pure consciousness (soul). Spiritual practice based scriptures speak of attainment of Ridhi-Sidhis i.e. divine glories. But one can attain even greater benefits both materially and spiritually if one makes apt use of the storehouse of infinite energy present in our inner soul via scientific spiritual practices. Life is a Yajna (sacred sacrifice). It is not merely as though offering worship materials to sacred fire is called Yajna. According to the level of the micro body and macro cosmos many small/big subtle Yajnas take place. The 7 Chakras are 7 sacrificial pyres of Yajnas. In the Yajna of Sadhana (spiritual practices) you have 7 fires, Purhoit of 7 Rishis, 7 demigods invoked, 7 Charas and the 7 results. This Yajna is executed via activation of the 7 Chakras within the jurisdiction of Kundalini Science. "The 7 Pranas (vital force) were produced from it. The 7 flames of fire, 7 types of wood, 7 Yajnas and 7 Lokas manifested from God." -MUNDAKOPANISHAD (2/1/8) "You are present in the 7 worlds (Lokas) as 7 divine energies and you control all of them: 1. Bhulok as earth 2. Bhuvaloka as wind 3. Savahaloka as ball of light 4. Mahahaloka as great attainment (Sidhi) 5. Janahaloka as procreation power 6. Tapahaloka as skill of austerities 7. Satyaloka as truthful speech." -DEVI BHAGWAT Within our body there are so many sources of energy akin to these 7 Chakras (subtle plexuses). They are called glands. In the brain lies the Vishnu gland, in the heart is the Brahma gland and in the navel, the Rudra gland. Even regarding this there are differences of opinions because some opine that the Vishnu gland is in the brain. But we must not get entangled with these names. Instead we should understand that not only in the Merudand (spine) but in the head, heart and navel region there are so many important energy centers (Chakras) which when activated via various methods are called Granthivedhan. Over here one more thing has to be noted that "Vedhan" means "opening" in common terms. Yet spiritually it means "activation" or "awakening." Just like the 6 Chakras in the Sushumna subtle nervous center situated in the back of our body, there are 6 other Chakras in the front side of the body. They are called Surya (Sun) Chakra, Agni (Fire) Chakra, Amrit (nectar of immortality) Chakra, Prabhanjan (destruction) Chakra, Tadit (lightning) Chakra and Soma (moon) Chakra. When mountain water gets concentrated in a particular area and springs forth, it is called a spring. In the mouth source of the spring, the water speed is extremely ferocious. W hen this water rises up and falls down a lot of chaos is witnessed and everyone knows how noisy the situation is. In the same way Chakras can be compared to eddies, cyclones and a spring of water. A volcano generally emits fire, smoke, lava from its opening. In the same way Chakras too release certain emissions. People are getting ready to generate infinite electrical energy from the tumultuous waves of the ocean. Those who have the capacity to utilize the energy released by these Chakras are said to be divine men. Endocrinologists who study various endocrine glands of the body are absolutely amazed to note that the juices secreted by the glands are so infinitesimal in terms of quantity yet they can influence our body, brain etc. on such an enormous scale. Testicles, kidneys, heart, male endocrine glands etc. can be called bigger glands. Since their activities are grosser they can be easily understood. But to unfold the mysteries of the endocrine glands is that much more difficult. Even after intricate research it is difficult to draw apt conclusions. Subtler that these are glands called Chakras (in Indian Yoga) which are beyond the ken and reach of sense organs and modern scientific apparatus like election microscopes etc. If at all one can see, understand and make apt use of these Chakras, it is only via an activated inner eye of wisdom/intuition. It is only on the basis of Subtle Spiritual Sciences like Yoga etc. can one experience and use these Chakras for one's own self and world humanity at large. Within Hathayoga spiritual practices, 6 Chakras have been listed situated in the Sushumna of the Merudand (Subtle spinal chord). They are 1) Mooladhar Chakra 2) Svadhishthan Chakra 3) Manipur Chakra 4) Anahat Chakra 5) Vishudh Chakra 6 ) Ajna Chakra. Amongst these, 4 of them have been deemed as nervous network by anatomists. The Mooladhar Chakra is called Pelvic Plexus. The Manipur Chakra is called Solar Plexus. The Anahat Plexus is called Cardial Plexus and the Vishudhi Chakra is called Pharyngeal Plexus by modern anatomists. Regarding the remaining 2 Chakras i.e. Svadhishthan and Ajna, there is a bit of disparity and difference of opinion between ancient spiritual seers and modern day research. We sincerely hope that this mystery will unfold in the near future. There is a detailed description of the 6 fold wealth which one attains on activating the 6 Chakras. These can be called spiritual attainments too. The 6-fold wealth is 1) Shama 2) Dama 3) Uparati 4) Titiksha 5) Shraddha and 6) Samadhan. "Shama" means overcoming mental turmoil and agitation. "Dama" means mastering the 5 sense organs (eyes, ears etc.). "Uparati" means abhorring wickedness. "Titiksha" means enduring hardships with great patience. "Shradha" encompasses steadfastness on the path of sacredness along with faith and love for it. "Samadhan" means liberation from doubts and desires. All these are specialties of qualities, action and character. Man rises higher up the ladder of life due to great thinking and idealistic actions. Thus he attains inner contentment, zeal, respect from the external world and cooperation that a realized saint or sage attains. Apart from this there are so many material benefits due to spiritual progress. These are called Sidhis. Soul based successes are called wealth and glories. Material progress is called high standard of living and Sidhi. Both these together can be seen as advancement of Extra Sensory Potential (ESP). Shri Adi Shankaracharya has enumerated 8 Sidhis. They are: 1. Sidhi of birth 2. Sidhi of knowledge of sound 3. Sidhi of knowledge of scriptures 4. Sidhi of enduring natural calamities. 5. Sidhi of enduring bodily/mental anguish. 6. Sidhi of enduring hardships meted out to us by other creatures of the world. 7. Sidhi of attaining wisdom 8. Sidhi of attaining knowledge
1.Sanma Sidhi means to know ones past lives. One is naturally attracted to relatives of past lives and one actually knows that they are relatives of past lives. 2.Shabda Sidhi meaning knowing the underlying meaning of a word. Words by themselves have less energy and one can twist their meanings as per one's whims and fancies. Only when a person's psyche is pure can he realize the true underlying meaning of a word. 3.Shastra Sidhi means understanding the true underlying meaning of scriptures and to understand in which context (country, era, character) these observations were made. No tenet or precept can be cosmic or meant for all times. How does one utilize the scriptural truth? This very subtle knowledge is Sidhi of words/sound. 4.Sidhi of enduring Adhidaivic agitations means steadfastly enduring pain due to natural calamities, accidental hardships, situations of separation from one's beloved ones etc. 5.Sidhi of enduring Adhymatic heat means control of emotions like sexual desires, anger, greed, delusion, envy, arrogance etc. Not to allow one's sense organs to cross the limits of sense enjoyment and obstructing the mind from becoming unruly. When due to this sort of control one's mind harbors discontent one should smilingly ignore it. 6.Sidhi of enduring Adhibhautik heat means to serenely endure hardships pertaining to the body like heat, cold, hunger, thirst, sleep, diseases etc. and disallow the mind from getting agitated. 7.Sidhi of Vijnan Shakti means a pious psyche, pure character, equanimos mind, serene nature, one with a dash of humor, a hardworking person, observer of all rules, disciplined, alert, performer of righteous duties, generous nature and contentment. 8.Sidhi of Vidya Shakti means steadfastness in emotions and faith with reference to the nature, aim, duty of the soul. One has firm faith in God and knowing that one's soul pervades every atom of the cosmos, one thinks everyone to be one's very own beloved. Such a person oozes with love for the world since he has overcome all agitations and the rush of blood nature of the mind. In very exceptional cases one sometimes hears or sees Sidhis like 1.Anima 2. Mahima 3. Garima 4. Laghima 5. Prapti 6. Prakamya 7. Ishatva 8. Vashitva. "Anima" means to make the body subtler than an atom. "Mahima" means to make one self extremely gigantic. "Garima" means to make one self very heavy. "Laghima" means to make one self very light. "Prapti" means to experience far off objects very closely. "Prakamya" means to fulfill one's wishes. "Ishatva" means lordship or to control other objects or circumstances. "Vashitva" means to induce other creatures to act according to one's own wishes by controlling their thoughts. There is another description of 8 Sidhis viz.: 1. Entering another person's body. 2. Walking on water 3. Exaltation 4. Waking in fire. 5. Flying in air 6. Hearing of divine sounds 7. Overcoming the veil of light. 8. Mastering all elements. The above mentioned miracles/Sidhis are generally not seen in today's modern times. And wherever these are seen, the measure of fraud is much more. Thus instead of talking about such miracles which we rarely see, we should clearly understand that by activating our Chakras (Plexuses), we can advance both materially and spiritually. We can attain those pinnacles of success which ordinary limited human effort can never even dream of attaining. | The Concept of Chakras Chakras are energy centers along the midline of the body. According to ancient Vedic philosophy, proper functioning of our body and mind depends on these chakras. From the mind’s eye these chakras are seen as spinning wheels or whirling masses of different colors. Our body is said to have seven primary chakras, each denoted with a different color and responsible for sets of mind and body functions. The exact location of each chakra may vary for different people; however the usual locations are within the body, in a straight line. The following is a list of the 7 chakras, their colors, locations and functions:
The root chakra
Location- At the base of the spine
Color- Burnt red; the color of the earth
Associated body parts- The spinal column, bones, teeth, anus, rectum, prostrate gland, blood etc
Associated feelings- Confidence, trust in life, self-esteem
If the chakra is closed the associated body parts may be affected and can lead to negative feelings of low self-esteem, constant fear of being let-down or cheated, lack of confidence etc. When the chakra is overactive it may make a person overconfident, arrogant and materialistic. An over-active chakra also affects the associated body parts adversely.
The sacral chakra
Location- Below the navel, around the genital area
Color – orange, the color of the setting sun
Associated body parts-Pelvic girdle, re-productive organs, kidneys, bladder, sperm, gastric juice, blood etc
Associated feelings or mental functions- Sexual desires, sexual attraction and emotions
If this chakra is closed one might experience problems in the associated body parts and/or an aversion to physical intimacy, fear of sexual union and/or suffer from a lack of interest in sex. It may also lead to low-self esteem and an emotional paralysis like situation. An overactive sacral chakra can be the cause of an obsession with sex or sexual addictions and/or malfunctioning of the associated body parts.
The solar-plexus
Location-6 inches above the navel
Color- Bright yellow
Associated body parts- Lower back, abdomen, digestive system, stomach, liver, spleen, gall bladder and autonomic nervous system
Associated feelings or mental functions- Will power, determination, view of self, self acceptance, respecting others
If the chakra is closed one may display emotions like self-loathing and lack of willpower. In case it is overactive it may make a person disrespectful, self-centered and callous towards others’ feelings. Either way, the associated body parts will be affected adversely.
The heart chakra
Location- Between the breasts
Color- Red, green or pink
Associated body parts- Heart, upper back, lower area of the lungs, blood and blood circulation, skin etc
Associated feelings or mental functions- Giving and accepting love, emotional security, forgiveness and kindness
A person with a closed heart chakra could be stingy, insecure bitter and/or emotionally cold. An overactive heart chakra can make people feel unloved and unappreciated; such people may go out of their way to help others but also keep unrealistically high expectations from the recipients of their help and love. They are generally bitter and over-possessive. A malfunctioning heart chakra can cause diseases in the associated body parts.
The Throat chakra
Location- The throat area, above the collar bones
Color- Pale blue or silver
Associated body parts- Neck, throat, jaw, ears, voice, trachea, upper lungs, esophagus, arms etc
Associated feelings or mental functions- Self expression, creativity, expressing one’s feelings of love and anger, communication etc
A blocked throat chakra can make a person stifle his/her creativity and self expression; such people are generally poor communicators and may also be too self-critical. A person who is extremely fond of hearing his own voice or doesn’t let other people express their opinions could have an overactive throat chakra. Such people are generally bad listeners and may display arrogance or over-confidence. A malfunctioning throat chakra affects the associated body parts adversely.
The Third-eye
Location- Between the eye brows
Color- Indigo or violet
Associated body parts- face eyes, ears, nose, sinuses, cerebrum, and central nervous system
Associated feelings/mental functions- Creativity, spirituality, connection with inner-self, focus
A closed third eye chakra could lead to creative block. You may feel as if you lack focus and may not be able to concentrate on any task at hand. A person with an overactive third eye chakra is generally organized to the point of being finicky; he/she could be rational to the extent of being cynical and may lack creativity. A malfunctioning of this chakra affects the associated body parts adversely.
The Crown Chakra
Location- Above the crown of the head
Color- Violet or gold
Associated body parts- Cerebrum, pineal gland
Associated feelings/mental functions- High level of consciousness, fulfillment, enlightenment, bliss
People with an open crown chakra are extremely spiritual. All your chakras need to be open for the crown chakra to function normally. Living a superficial life, running away from spiritual truths, prioritizing money and material comforts above love and kindness all indicate towards a malfunctioning of the crown chakra. A completely closed crown chakra could lead to serious problems in the associated body parts.
There are numerous ways to cleanse these chakras, from yoga, crystal therapy and aroma therapy to simple meditation. You can choose the method based on your comfort level and faith.

The answer could be, "Yes" or "No", depending upon which school of thought you are trained in.
Firstly, let's cover the side that would say, "Yes" to helping you share the experience of Chakra awakening. There is no shortage of detailed information, made available by enlightened Yoga enthusiasts like Anodea Judith.
Anodea Judith has made a Chakra balancing kit available, which gives a tour of the seven main Chakra system, detailed exercises, meditations, a workbook, and the path to Chakra awakening. She also has more books available, confers with other enlightened Yoga enthusiasts, and teaches workshops on this very subject.
There are many other books and CD's on this subject by a variety of knowledgeable authors and enlightened Yoga practitioners. All of this information is easy for the public to "get their hands on." So, here is a school of thought that believes this information should be shared and has gone out of its way to mass produce this information.
On the other hand, some Yoga teachers do not want the negative and positive qualities, within each Chakra, to be casually explored by students, without a competent Yoga teacher present. This is with the student's safety in mind.
Furthermore, the amount of previous Yoga experience a student has is a factor in being able to control emotions, such as fear, lust, anger, and depression that can come boiling to the surface as a result of a Chakra awakening.
When, or if, a student is ready for Chakra awakening, should be determined by the teacher; this is not for every student. Some students put pressure on themselves, which may lead to anxiety, causing negative qualities of the Chakras to surface, during an awakening.
In summary: One of the results of steady Yoga training is that we can get a better handle on our emotions than most. We also realize that we are not enlightened or perfect all the time. If you want to experience Chakra awakening with an enlightened Yoga enthusiast, you should seek out a competent Yoga teacher, who is willing to help you. You could also get similar guidance from a Reiki teacher or Reiki master. Reiki teachers are very familiar with the Chakra system and very helpful. If it is not possible to work with a Reiki master, and you have been regularly practicing Yoga for at least two years, the Chakra balancing kit, I mentioned above, gives you step-by-step guidance toward awakening the Chakras. Lastly, this is not a race, and please don't put pressure on yourself toward self-perfection. He helps people worldwide reach further than they EVER thought possible, FASTER!!! http://www.energyenhancement.org | | Best Chakra Balancing Visualization Meditation Technique One of the best meditation techniques for opening and balancing the chakra points, is the visualization meditation technique. In this technique, the color attribute of each chakra is exploited and used an instrument to stimulate and awaken that particular chakra.
Let's begin first though by giving a brief overview of the chakra system and how they work. Chakra point are energy vortexes that reside in the astral body and transmute energy between the 3 bodies that make up a human being. There 3 bodies are the physical body, astral body and mental body. Charka points essentially move energy between these bodies, by raising or dropping the frequency of the energy as required.
Each chakra resides in a particular location along the spine from the base to the crown of the head, and the health of the chakra is reflected in the health of the organs and systems in that particular region. In addition, chakra points are responsible for personality traits and having the chakra in balance, means to have one's physical, emotional and mental bodies in balance as well. So now that we have an understanding of chakra points, let's delve into the visualization meditation technique which can be used to open, heal and balance the chakra points.
Each chakra point is associated with a particular color, and by using this information along with the power of concentration and visualization one can help stimulate a particular chakra and assist it in opening. Below is the color chart that lists the particular color associated with each chakra point. Each of these colors should then be used, as described in the meditation script below it.
Chakra Point Color Chart:
Root chakra meditation color: Red
Sex chakra meditation color: Orange
Navel chakra meditation color: Yellow
Heart chakra meditation color: Green
Throat chakra meditation color: Blue
Third eye chakra meditation color: Indigo
Crown chakra meditation color: Violet
To practice chakra visualization meditation technique, one should follow the step-by-step instructions below.
1. Either lie on your back, or sit up in cross legged posture with your back straight.
2. Close your eyes and take 5 deep slow breaths to help relax you and clam the mind.
3. Now begin to visualize the color red at the base of your spine as a glowing ball of red light. Feel your breath moving in and out from this center while continuing to imagine a red ball of light emanating from that location.
4. After spending a minute or two at the root chakra, move up to the sex chakra and repeat the exercise with the color orange.
5. In this fashion work through all the other chakras as well, where the navel chakra is located at the level of the solar plexus, the heart chakra at the level of the sternum, the throat chakra at the neck and the third eye chakra in the middle of the forehead.
6. Once you complete the cycle, relax for a few minutes and then finish the meditation, by affirming you are healthy, balanced and at peace.
The above chakra meditation, works through the entire chakra system, but if you are interested in opening and balancing just one particular chakra, you can simply focus on doing the visualization meditation with the color for that specific chakra only. This method of chakra balancing is very effective, but one should use it judiciously, as one should be physically able to handle the increased energy flow that can occur when chakras are activated and opened. If there is a hitch or roadblock you just keep asking for clarification, guidance, or to be shown in a different manner. There are so many ways to accomplish the same thing. A picture that is planted in your mind is a great way to follow along. But besides pictures, you may feel impressions, and hear something audible in your head, or be cleverly turned from one thought to another so that you can more effectively grasp the concept. It is just a matter of being open, and allowing this fluidity to occur. If you are researching a subject of importance and depth, you could open the third eye area and ask for guidance in the following manner. "Who knows this subject? Who can answer my questions very quickly? "Who do I need to talk to?" "Where can I find him or her at this time or very rapidly? If you are using the internet -"What search word or phrase will bring me my answer right now?" Then when you receive the impressions just act on it immediately and trust the information. When you trust, it will come in more quickly. When you are working in a healing capacity such as doing Reiki on a person, you can tune in and receive exact information about the person with whom you are working. You can receive information about their emotional and physical state, spiritual journey, how they behave, and long buried emotional roots. But when you are working in the healing capacity, there are many elements at work. Your hands are conduits, as is your heart, and your third eye, many practitioners feel impressions from the body's chakras, and aura fields. There are healing guides, angels and the person's totem or spirit guides at work with you as well. You have to learn to work with as many elements as you feel comfortable, and you must learn to distinguish many elements at the same time. You will become very comfortable with a lot of different elements as you begin working in earnest. You can master the third eye as well as working in deep spiritual connection. You need to remember balance. Not everything is learned at once. Not everything is processed at once. But if your intention is focused and you want clarity it will all become clear. Practice, take your time, trust yourself, and let the light shine out. copyright 2006 Yoga Kat Source: http://www.articlecircle.com/ - Free Articles Directory About the AuthorYoga Kat teaches children's yoga ages 3-6, 7-12yrs and Adults in NJ. With integration comes all the benefits of a one pointed and focused mind, leading to higher ability and achievement, Higher Intelligence, Intellect, Emotional IQ, Communication, Creativity and Will Power. As well as the integration of the energy centers of the body, the chakras through the removal of energy blockages, there is also an incredible integration of the separated selves, both of which come about through meditation. Yogic theory says that your mind is like a distributed or parallel processing computer with many energy blockages, ego programs and sub-personalities wandering around in it. Ghosts in the Machine! This is the reason why people are inconsistent, - they tend to change their minds! Now this is interesting, the idea, the theory that we are a collection of sub-personalities and in this work of integration, we are aiming to make one of the sub-personalities the strongest by absorbing and integrating all the lesser sub-personalities into it. One strong integrated personality is more decisive and more successful than a hundred weak and aimless sub-personalities. The first step in the process of integration is simply to examine the theory and literature on sub-personalities and then start to spot and notice the effects of sub-personalities in the people around you. 1. First we have the literature on Sub-personalities. As well as the psychological books detailing abnormal multiple personalitied people, we also have literature on the softer and more normal symptoms of the pervasive nature of sub-personalities in everyone. a. Paracelsus von Hohenheim (1490-1541) was the outstanding medical therapist of his time and, perhaps, the greatest mystic in the history of Western medicine. He devoted his life to research in the healing arts. Paracelsus visited Constantinople to acquaint himself with the secret practices of the Dervishes and the Sufis. The invisible progeny of man include thought-forms and emotion-forms. These are like infants or inner children, especially in their beginnings, for they depend upon their creator for their nutrition and survival. Paracelsus noted that most elementaries or sub-personalities seem to be of an evil or destructive nature. They are generated from the excesses of human thought and emotion, the corruption of character, or the degeneration of faculties and powers which should be used in other, more constructive ways.... b. Gurdjieff - "The person who says he will get up at 5 in the morning, is not the same person who throws the alarm clock out of the window!" Addictive and negative sub-personalities were part of the Gurdjieffian teaching, The Work, and indeed Gurdjieff cured many people of their most distressing symptoms. "One of the basic principles explains the many and varied I's in a man. The unawakened man is not a unified person. He has dozens of selves within him, each falsely calling itself "me". The many I's within a man explains many mysteries about human nature. For example, a man decides to give up an undesirable habit, but the next day he repeats it again. Why? Because another entitiy sub personality, I, has taken over, an energy blockage that likes the habit and has no intention of giving it up." c. Eric Berne of Transactional Analysis, and his book, "The Games People Play". Forty years ago, Games People Play revolutionized our understanding of what really goes on during our most basic social interactions. More than five million copies later, Dr. Eric Berne's classic is as astonishing-and revealing-as it was on the day it was first published. d. Jung, and his Archetypal sub-personalities. e. Dame Alexandra-Neel worked with sub-personalities and Thought-Forms in Tibet and reported on her experiences in her autobiography. f. Hubbard - those beings or entities, energy blockages or "body thetans" ("BTs") that are located in the body or around the body are inhabiting various things, like a body part - a bone, arm, cell, or they are a particular sub-personality, or condition, such as "TV watcher," or "fear," or "worker," or "solitary angry man," and so on. "People get confused as to who they are and who they are not. A person hears these voices or feels desires, and so on, and thinks he is the source of them. Yet, you are not necessarily the originator of these thoughts or impulses. So, by identifying who is the source of these vocalizations or impulses and spotting where it is located and removing it, you are freed to think for yourself." g. Many philosophers, including George Santayana and David Hume, have also observed how a person switches constantly from one I to another. 2. Sub-personalities in people are created to make them weaker. The younger we are, the more we are affected by physical and emotional shocks to the system, traumas which create negative emotions, anger and sadness are caused by energy blockages. These traumas split off the ego programs into Inner Children Sub-Personalities who sabotage your life thereafter. 3. Then we have the symptoms of sub-personalities in all people. The inner child archetypes of the attention seeking energy vampires, - the poor me, the violator, the selfish competitive star, the seducer, the tyrant, the pleaser, the critic and many more games that people play, which have been written about in many articles. 4. Then we have the advanced meditational technology to integrate the sub-personalities and become more creative and successful. And even meditation is not enough, now we need real Meditative Progress, a Speeding up of the Process of Meditation through Advanced Meditational Techniques. Nuad Phaen Boran actually translates into “ancient massage” or “traditional massage.” Traditional Thai massage has been practised for over 2,500 years. It not only relaxes the body, but the mind as well. It actually began in India. The Buddhist monks practised both massage and other healing arts. This spread to families and as Buddhism spread to Asia, the traditional Thai massage became a part of both the religious and healing part of the religion. It is believed that traditional Thai massage made it to Thailand around the 3rd or 2nd century BC. Many times, monastery temples were built near medical schools so the art of massage was taught among both monks and medical students. Traditional Thai massage focuses on the experience of the whole body. It works on the major energy lines, known as ‘Sen’. These Sen run throughout the body. By loosening blockages, the massage will help harmonize the body and recoup any deficiencies of the energy lines. Just as Chinese medicine uses acupuncture to help revive health, traditional Thai massage uses a similar system of pressure points to help heal and relieve stress. The Prana, or life energy, is allows to freely circulate through the body. Traditional Thai massage has many benefits. Whether you are the receiver of the massage or the giver of the massage, you can feel joy, ease, and comfort. The massage will open up your chakras, allowing you to have a more peaceful mind as well as benefiting your health. The giver of the traditional Thai massage also will receive generosity, compassion, equanimity, the feeling of oneness, the feeling of loving kindness, and the pride that can only be felt by a healer. The receiver will feel the joy of receiving as well as a calmness of rest and a refreshed spirit. Physically, the receiver feels a general increase in energy due to the opening of Sen and other blocked areas in the body. They will also feel relief from pain and muscle tension, blood and lymph circulation is improved, and the nervous system is balanced. An increase in flexibility is also possible. Traditional Thai massage is a floor massage. The receiver usually is asked to lay on a pad or light mattress. By lying on the floor, the practitioner can easily manipulate the limbs of the receiver. Massages are given in silence, so the practitioner can better understand what the receiver needs are while the receiver can concentrate on learning about himself and his body. Practitioners start at the feet and moves toward the receiver’s head, making the body feel loosened and stretched. A massage can last between two and three hours. Sometimes it combines techniques used in western physical therapies such as Neuromuscular therapy, Myofascial Release Techniques, and Remedial massage. Traditional Thai massage is great for athletes as it keeps them flexible and helps prevent and treat injuries. It also helps improve the flexibility and mobility of the handicapped. Regaining your health through alternative medicine is becoming more and more common today as people find that conventional medicine doesn't always work. Chinese medicine and medical practices are very popular among all cultures. Acupuncture has proven to be effective in the treatment of many medical conditions including cancer, arthritis, weight management, diabetes, heart disease, and pregnancy. Acupressure is also a common form of alternative medicine that is being heard about more often in western cultures. As well as acupuncture and acupressure, the use of Chinese herbal medicine is used for any number of ailments and symptoms. The use of a variety of relaxation techniques are another form of alternative medicine that more and more people are using for use in pain control, lowering their blood pressure, controlling the symptoms of arthritis, headache control, and many other medical conditions. Some of these relaxation techniques include yoga, tai chi, meditation, visualization, chanting. Another alternative health method used by many people is managing the chakra system of the body. The chakra points are fully concentrated on until both mental and physical health is obtained. Many times this requires the use of chakra therapist to help with each level of the chakras. When it comes to choosing alternative health options you might want to talk to a naturopathic doctor so that you can find out what choices you have for your medical symptoms or if you just want to maintain good health. Alternative medicine means feeling a strong interest in the methods that you choose. You can also look in your local natural health bookstore for books on alternative medicine so that you see the great strides that this discipline has made over the years. You might be surprised to find that this field of medicine has claimed its place in medical care as firmly as it has.
